Birding With Anne

Founded by Anne Z. in Year 11 at Howick, this youth-led project brings together young conservationists, families, and communities to protect Aotearoa New Zealand’s birds and habitats through science, hands-on action, and creativity.

Hi! I’m Anne — birder, artist, and conservation advocate.

My journey began in the rich landscapes of New Zealand, where I first discovered the magic of birds at Tiritiri Matangi Island, my favourite place in the world.

What started as curiosity became a lifelong mission to protect birds and their habitats. Now studying Biological Sciences at Cornell University, I continue mentoring the next generation of youth leaders through Birding with Anne.

I believe that together, we can create a sustainable future — one that celebrates science, creativity, and care for nature.

We invite families and young conservationists to explore the natural world through hands-on learning, storytelling, and science-based activities that inspire curiosity and care for nature.

Bird Walks

Join our guided bird walks to discover local species, learn identification skills, and connect with others who share a love for nature and conservation.

Bird Counts & Data Collection

Our bird counts and data collection projects turn curiosity into science. Volunteers learn to observe carefully, record accurately, and contribute to long-term conservation research. Click Here

Art for Birds

Art for Birds transforms creativity into conservation. Through murals, artworks, and community exhibitions, we celebrate native birdlife and inspire others to protect it.

Trapping Lines

Maintaining local trapping lines helps reduce predators and protect vulnerable native species. Each trap checked and record logged brings us one step closer to safer habitats for our birds.

Restoration

Through weeding and tree planting, we restore habitats and create safe spaces for native birds to thrive. Each planting day strengthens our connection to the land and the wildlife it sustains.

Local Libraries

Highland Park and Pakuranga Libraries support us by hosting workshops and sharing our message in their communities.
